Members newsletter – April 2026
‘With the Fans, For the Fans’
1
This month’s update is slightly different from our usual format. With our first ever AGM being held on Monday 23 March, this month focuses on that milestone and the transition to a fully elected committee. As a result, some of the usual sections will return in full in next month’s newsletter. We felt it was important to give proper space to the AGM and what it represents for BFCISA, and to share key updates following the meeting.

First BFCISA AGM Completed:
Thank you to everyone who was able to attend our first AGM on Monday 23 March. It marked an important step in the development of BFCISA as we formally moved to a fully democratic structure.
The meeting included the Chair’s Report and Financial Report, both of which were proposed, seconded and accepted by members, along with the formal dissolution of the interim Steering Group.
Thank you to all members who participated in the ballot in the run up to the AGM. Following this, the first elected BFCISA committee has now been confirmed and is in place to take the association forward.
The newly elected committee consists of:
1
  • Alister Leaver
  • Chris Wells
  • Christopher Johnson
  • David Thompson
  • Graham Fox
  • James McDonough
  • Joe Redmond
  • John Robertson
  • Martin Biddulph
  • Oliver Norris
  • Simon Jackson
  • Susan Graham
The minutes of the AGM can be accessed below:

For any members who were unable to attend but would like to catch up, please let us know if you would like a link to the recording.
We would also like to place on record our sincere thanks to everyone who has contributed to the Steering Group since launch. A significant amount of work has gone on behind the scenes to establish BFCISA, and that contribution has been vital in getting the association to this point.

ANY OTHER BUSINESS:
Kieran Maguire Event Date Change:
Following our previous announcement of the online event with football finance expert Kieran Maguire, the date has now been moved and will take place on Thursday 21 May.
There has been a lot of interest in this event since it was first announced, and we’re looking forward to what should be an insightful evening. Joining instructions will be shared shortly.

FSA’s VAR Supporter Survey:
The Football Supporters’ Association (FSA) recently published the results of a national supporter survey on VAR which may be of interest to members. Full results are here.
The headline finding was that around three quarters of supporters do not support VAR in its current form, with particular concern around its impact on the matchday experience.
This reflects many of the conversations we have had with members this season.
The FSA is the national, democratic, representative body for football supporters in England and Wales. BFCISA is currently an Allied member and we’d encourage all to sign up for free individual membership too. You can join here.

Fixture Pain:
As noted in a recent newsletter, the issue of fixture scheduling is high on the agenda for BFCISA. It’s certainly front of mind just now, with the international break forcing domestic fixtures into extended hiatus. But increasing disruption is now the norm.
The BBC this week reported how Sky are willing and able to disregard the limits on the amount of times clubs can have games chosen for Friday or Monday TV coverage. Everton fans have found seven of their games moved when the limit is supposed to be five.
This isn’t just a Premier League problem; the Championship is now rife with TV-motivated schedule changes. Leicester and Coventry fans have seen their sides’ games moved from 3pm on Saturday 18 times each so far this season.
BFCISA’s view is that fans must come first with disruption kept to a minimum, and we’ll continue to press that view in the coming months.
If you have a view, do get in touch.

Looking Ahead:
Next month’s newsletter will return to the usual format, including updates across ticketing, supporter engagement, ground issues and wider club matters.
Due to Easter holidays and other commitments, the committee will be meeting for the first time on 20 April. We will therefore include a full introduction to the BFCISA committee, along with an outline of priorities for the months ahead, in May’s newsletter.

As always, BFCISA is member-led and continues to develop through your support and engagement.
